What happens at the first appointment?

We welcome you to the practice and invite you to discuss any concerns you may have regarding the appearance of your teeth and face. We can then work together to plan the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

Before any orthodontic treatment is undertaken a full examination will take place. This involves both scanning the teeth and jaws and taking X-rays and impressions of the teeth. In some cases it is possible to give a definitive treatment plan at the first visit. In other cases this will be discussed at a subsequent appointment after further examination of the X-rays and plaster models of the teeth.

New patients appointments are normally on a Tuesday morning.

Due to the age profile of orthodontic patients it is not possible to offer after school appointments on a regular basis to any one patient in particular. If you refuse or are unable to commit to appointments during school hours then we will only be able to offer you treatment on a private basis. It is important to attend at the allocated time, occasionally you may be kept waiting.

If it is necessary to cancel an appointment at least 24 hours notice is required.

Should you fail to keep an appointment it is your responsibility to contact the surgery to organise another one. There is a charge for failed appointments. Parents who are on a low income or receiving income support or other benefits are not exempt these charges.
